These results agree well with values reported for other invertebrates and for fish (Kleiber, 1932; Zeuthen, 1948a, 1953; Jones, 1976). The exponent was also very close to that reported for oxygen con- sumption in A. elegantissima (Shick et al., 1979). Prey capture A. xanthogrammica and A. elegantissima captured experimentally released.
