At the shores of the Mavora Lakes in the Southern Alpes of New Zealand low rainfall creates tussock grasslands with some scrub in between. Along the shores parts of the movie "Lord of the Rings were produced. In der Einsamkeit der Südalpen entstehen auf Grund der geringen Niederschläge an den Ufern der Mavora-Seen Tussock-Graslandschaften, die mit Dornbüschen durchsetzt sind. An den Ufern der Seen wurden einige Szenen des Kinofilms "Herr der Ringe" gedreht.
