A range of pure colour pigments is on sale in an art shop window in Venice in the Venetian region of northern Italy. The shop specializes in artist pigments and has many colours in plastic bags too. These pigments can be used in oil, acrylic and watercolour painting, depending on the type of resin added. Venetian-born oil painting artist, Giovanni Bellini (1430 – 1516) has been called the ‘Father of Venetian painting’ starting from the Early Renaissance period using a few basic pigments.
