Bulldog ant (genus Myrmecia) or bullant or bull ant, New South Wales, Australia.

Australian bulldog ant (genus Myrmecia) photographed on the south coast of New South Wales. These huge ants (the smallest is over 6mm long; some over 25mm) are easily distinguised by their long, straight mandibles and large eyes. Adults consume nectar and plant juices, but also forage for animal prey to feed their larvae. These fierce ants will rush out and attack, often jumping onto victims (hence their nickname Jack Jumpers).
