The plans building about 12 ft. from the main power house, and hasin connection with it a large store, which is supplied by arailway track entering the top floor of the building over atrestle railway, a spur from the Manors station of the GreatEastern Railway. The boilers, of which there are eight,were supplied by Messrs. Thomas Beeley & Son, of Hyde,near Manchester. They are of the Lancashire type, 30ft. x 8 ft. 6 ins., and are designed for a working pressureof 160 lbs. The boilers are all furnished with Vicars me-chanical stokers, supplied by the same firm, as well as thefuel economizers, engines for driving the ash chutes, thecomplete installation of steam, feed and blow-off piping,with valves, etc., steam superheaters, feed-pumps and in-jector, feed-water heater and other accessories. The short. 2000-HP GENERATING UNIT IN NEWCASTLE POWER HOUSE for the system were carefully prepared and the work hasbeen conducted under the supervision of B. Hopkinson,of Hopkinson & Talbot, who acted as consulting engineer,and A. E. Le Rossignol, who was appointed tramwayengineer and manager early in the proceedings. The ac-companying illustrations and description of the principalfeatures of this system give a fair idea of the work that hasbeen accomplished. The map shows the district served bythe system and the extent of the undertaking. POWER HOUSE EQUIPMENT The power house is conveniently situated about half amile from the heart of the city. It is a handsome red brickbuilding and is arranged so as to permit a substantial in-crease. A plan of the power house and a cross section isgiven on the next page.
