Intense Coots fight UK WILD IMAGES of four coots ganging up on each other in pairs were snapped in Elmley Nature Reserve, off the coast of Kent. Elmley Nature Reserve, in southeast England, is full of birdlife, from owls, harriers and peregrines to lapwings, godwits, avocets, terns and coots. Coots are widespread in the UK wetlands. They can be often seen in park lakes, ponds, and rivers. They often squabble over food or territory, as can be seen in these images. They spend much of their time away from the bankside, diving for food. These exciting images were captured by a Graphic Designer and wildlife photographer, Malini Chandrasekar (43), with a Nikon Z9 camera and a Nikon Z600mm F4 TC lens. “I never really thought I'd ever photograph such a thing; my focus was and is predominantly on raptors, and that is really why I was there, waiting for Marsh harriers,” she said. “So, when this unfolded, I was equal parts surprised and pleased to capture something so rare. “I was amazed as it was the first and only time I had watched Coots fight in that manner. “It was almost like they ganged up against each other, as couples. “The action, the storytelling, and also the fact that it's an uncommon sighting for a common species.” ENDs
