The Montfort stronghold, at Vitrac (Dordogne - France). The history of the Simon de Montfort castle begins in 1214 and is exclusively made of a succession of struggles in order to obtain its possession. Razed to the ground once and re-built, it started to do all this again during the Hundred Years' War, under Louis XI and Henry IV. Some would say it is today a nice "chocolate- box" castle, the last restorations of which were undertaken in the XIX th century.
