DG Tau stellar disc and jets. Artwork showing a close-up of a disc (orange) and inner portions of the jets (white) associated with the young star DG Tau (yellow, centre). This star is located in the Taurus star-forming region in the constellation of Taurus, and is around 456 light years from Earth. The jets are the first double-sided X-ray jets ever detected from a young star. The counter jet (upper left) has higher energy X-rays than the forward jet (lower right). It is thought that the imbalance, observed by the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO), is due to the disk around DG Tau absorbing some of the energy of the X-rays.
