Historic Benedictine Abbey of center.

Marola is part of the municipality of Carpineti, in the province of Reggio Emilia. The town, located in a central position of Apennine area, is 32 km from Reggio Emilia, 11 Km from Castelnuovo ne 'Monti, and about 5 km from the nearby towns of Felina, Carpineti. It is one of the most famous summer resorts of the Reggio Apennines, including the presence of a historic Benedictine Abbey, built at the time of Matilda of Canossa. The monastery suffered over the centuries different uses and transformations. The church was affected by a major restoration starting in 1955, in the name of a recovery of Romanesque, has altered in part the appearance. In the village there are numerous hotels and restaurants, as well as two associations currently active: the Pro Loco, livening up the summer with numerous events and entertainment and the Union Sportive Tricolore Marola, which also boasts a championship (1996) in 'roll of honor of the glorious "Tournament of the Mountain". Worth noting is now ultracinquantenale "Chestnut Festival" which takes place in three Sundays of each month of October and attracts - from outside the province - many tourists and collectors of the delicious fruit. Because of its altitude and geographic location, the town, located on a hill surrounded by wooded ancient chestnut trees, has had some building development in the second half of the twentieth century, becoming a peaceful resort and a renowned health resort. read more : (Carpineti)
