'Les Gardiens Camargaises', atop their Camargue horses wait outside the Church of Saintes Marie de La Mer for the church service to end and the procession to the sea to begin. The local horsemen dressed in traditional garb accompany the procession of the Saints Mary Jacobe and Mary Salome from the church of Saintes Maries de La Mer into the sea on the May 25th every year, after having done the same with the Gypsy patron Saint Sarah the previous day.
