Looking SW at Altarnun stone circle, Cornwall, reconstructed 1889 as a circle of 8 stones, gap at N(R) marks a missing 9th stone

Looking SW at Altarnun stone circle on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall. Reconstructed in 1889 as a circle of 8 stones (2 of which have fallen) plus a central pillar. A gap at N marks a missing ninth stone; there may have been 10-12 originally. The central pillar may be original or erected as part a row of stones running SW and ENE from the circle, marking the medieval parish boundary between Altarnun and North Hill. Situated in a wet hollow near a stream head in an isolated part of East Moor, but with a few prehistoric cairns, hut circles and field systems nearby.
