View NE of St David's Church, Llanddewi-Brefi, Wales, UK. The C12th church was built on an earthen mound (possibly a Bronze Age barrow), the tower survives but the rest largely collapsed in the C18th & was rebuilt in 1874. Several Early Christian memorials from the graveyard were brought into the church at that time & the C7th Idnert Stone, which contains the earliest known mention of St David, was cut & built into the outer wall of the new nave. A story in the C11th Life of St David says the young saint spoke with such authority & eloquence at a C6th synod here that the ground rose up beneath him. An old yew tree stands on a small mound S of the church.
