CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – Sgt. Maj. Peter A. Siaw conducts the passing of the sword during a relief and appointment ceremony March 28 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. The sword acts as a personification of the military tradition and signifies the transfer of responsibilities which entails the transfer of total accountability and authority, from one individual to another. Sgt. Maj. Peter Siaw was relieved of his duty as the sergeant major of Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler and Marine Corps Installations Pacific by Sgt. Maj. Vincent Young.
