Vine vigorous and productive, ripening early. Fruit large, oval, very heavy, uniformly mottled light and dark green. Flesh bright red, solid and very tender, melting and sweet. The melons retain their good quality for a long time after ripening; is sure to become a popular variety. Black Spanish. Solid ; very thin rind, flesh scarlet, sweet and luscious ; a profitable variety for the market gardener. Mountain Sweet. Early, large, oblong, dark green, thin rind; flesh red; solid, rich and sweet, especially good for Northern gardens. â Cuban Queen. One of the largest varieties, ripening to the very centre; heavy cropper, flesh bright red, tender and melt- ing, luscious, crisp, and very sugary. Nabob (see cut). A new variety, shape of Kolb Gem, but different color, being mottled. Grow to weigh 50 to 60 lbs. each, with thin, firm rind. Two average-sized men have stood, bearing their whole weight on a Nabob weighing 30 lbs., without cracking the rind or injuring the Melon. They are of most delicious quality, sweet, luscious and melting. The Melons stand shipping a long distance. Pkt., 5 cts.; oz., 10 cts.; \ lb., 30 cts.; lb., $ Dixie. A cross between the Kolb Gem and old- fashioned Mountain Sweet, surpassing the former in earliness, pro- ductiveness, and ship- ping qualities, and fully equaling the latter in quality and fine flavor.
