Wealthy.—Originated about 1861 from seed obtained from Bangor,Maine, by the late Peter JI. Ciideon, Excelsior, Minnesota. Thisone variety is an enduring monument for its originator, who i)er-severcd in raising many thousands of apple and crab seedlings underthe most discouraging circumstances. Tree vigorous, spreadmg, veryproductive. There are now many seedlings of Wealthy. (See Peter.). Wealthy. Core small, barelyclasping, closed; cells round, entire; tube funnel-shaped; stamensmedian or basal; seeds plump; flesh white, often stained with red,tender, very juicy, sprightly subacid, very good. October to February. Westfield Seck-no-furthci Origin, Connecticut; the name is shortened to Seeks in the New York market; an old and highlyesteemed variety in the northeastern States. Tree vigorous, spreading,productive.
