Salomon de Caus (1576-1626). 1865 illustration of the French Huguenot engineer and architect Salomon de Caus. De Caus published several works on engineering, including 'Les Raisons des forces mouvantes' (1615). This included details of a steam-driven pump. De Caus also designed gardens for the royalty of Europe in Italy, Austria, England and Germany. After 1620, De Caus worked on sanitation and fountains in Paris as engineer for King Louis XIII.
