The height of the body is contained four times and two-fifths or five times in the total length (^\^thout caudal), the length of the head thrice and two-fifths or thrice and a quarter; head rather broader than high, its greatest width being two-thirds or three- quarters of its length. Occipital process granu- lated, subtriangular, scarcely longer than broad. The band of intermaxillary teeth is six times as long as broad ; teeth on the palate granular, in two separate semiovate patches. The maxillaiy barbels are considerably shorter than the head. Dorsal fin higher than the body ; its spine is strong, serrated along both edges, and it is contained once ' and a fifth or once and two-thirds in the length of | the head. Adipose fin rather shorter than dorsal. \\ Pectoral two-thirds or five-sixths of the length of the head, with its spine nearly as long as that of the dorsal fin. Adipose fin with a large black spot.
