Ponte Sant Angelo

Rome, looking across the Ponte Sant' Angelo (completed in 134 AD) towards Castel sant Angelo the former mausoleum of the Emperor Hadrian. The bridge is decorated by a later addition in the form of statues of ten angels holding instruments of the Passion of Christ. The angel statue in the foreground is the Angel with the Whips (by Lazzaro Morelli (1608 – 1690) and the plinth bears the inscription "In flagella paratus sum".
