His house stood just north of thechurch, until 1775, when the British troops tore it down for after 3ears the land was given by Mrs. Mary Norton to theThird Congregational Society for the erecting of a house fortheir assembling themselves together publiquely to worshipGod. The tablet reads: Old South Church gathered 1669 First House built 1670 This House erected 1729 Desecrated by British Troops 1775-6. 64.
