The Cairngorms mountain range from the south east, from Glas Maol
The southern Cairngorms. The two prominent peaks towards the left are Cairn Toul (1293m), and Braeriach (1296m). The highest, domed, peak in the centre is Ben Macdui (1309m) - the highest peak in the Cairngorms and second highest in the UK. To its left is the defile of the Lairig Ghru pass, and to its right the cliffs of Coire Sputan Dearg, a glacial cirque. On the far right are the cliffs of Beinn Mheadoin above Glen Derry, and on the skyline above them Cairngorm (1245m). In the foreground is the ski lift on the summit of Carn Aosda ( 917m), part of the Cairnwell Ski Centre. Viewed from Glas Maol (1068m), looking north west. The summit of Ben Macdui is 29 kilometres, as the crow flies, from Glas Maol; the summit of Braeriach is 32 kilometres distant.
