Looking E at the semicircular forecourt, square-ended horns & orthostatic facade of East Bennan Neolithic chambered tomb, Arran, Scotland, UK. A Clyde-type trapezoidal long mound occupying an outcrop in a shallow valley above the Struey Burn. The forecourt at the W end faces the rising hillside. The facade is defined by upright slabs with a pair of portal stones at the centre partly blocking the entrance. The chamber is divided by septal slabs into five burial compartments in a line. There are signs of a chamber set laterally at the rear (E) end, possibly a secondary insertion. The long sides of the mound are retained by a kerb of upright stones & drystone walling. In July 1987 the farmer was using the S side of the mound as a cattle feeding station.
