Lightweight aluminium alloy scaffolding and temporary netting surrounds the Romanesque open galleries of Torre Pendente or Leaning Tower of Pisa on the Campo dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles) at Pisa, Tuscany, Italy. This photograph was taken in 2007 during comprehensive renovations to the stonework of the Torre Pendente; these renovations followed decade-long stabilization works that reduced the lean by 45cm (18”).

The ‘Leaning Tower of Pisa’ or Torre Pendente is the campanile or bell tower of the Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption) on the Piazza or Campo dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles) in Pisa. Construction of the tower began in 1173 and continued for about 200 years.
