P-51 Mustang in flight. Aerial view of a P-51 Mustang aircraft being piloted by former US pilots Charles Elwood 'Chuck' Yeager (born 1923) and Joe Engle (born 1932). In 1947 Yeager became the first pilot confirmed to have broken the speed of sound in an aircraft. Engle was the first man to pilot the Space Shuttle. Photographed during an air show held for the Air Force Association's 'Gathering of Eagles', a convention commemorating spectacular achievements in the free world's aerospace development, in 1986.
