STORY Alexis Chivers, daughter of Navy Cmdr. Steve Chivers, is not a typical teenager. Alexis, 13, is the youngest black belt in her martial arts academy’s history. Alexis’ life has now been centered on balancing her identity as a black belt, a young teenager, a female and a military child. Though she has battled and mastered an art form that take many people a lifetime to complete, she still battles with dreaded teenage annoyances such as chores, bedtimes and acne.
