It should be clear from the foregoing that no matterwhat rate of fare the passenger pays, he must have afare receipt that proves he is entitled to ride. In a city with one predominant industry, the electricrailway is at a disadvantage compared with the linesin larger places having varied industries. Quite re-cently, however, the Reading biscuit bakery adopted aforty-eight hour week for its 7000 employees, thereby. As already described in the case of the AberdeenCorporation Tramways, all the tickets assigned to anyone conductor are taken in serial order out of a bincontaining 10,000 of each classification. The estimatedrequirements for the day, together with waybill andpunch, are put up in an individual box which is handedto the conductor when he reports for the days identifications, the quantity and the last and thefirst numbers of the tickets are already written downon the waybill when he receives his stock, so that hecan check the ticket numbers and the punch reading,before leaving. The conductor himself writes down therecord of exchange tickets, First numbers returnedto office and Quantity sold, and figures out theamount of cash he should turn in. Conductors are al-lowed to hold 2s. for change. Overs are returned to theconductors, and shorts must be made up by them. Unlike the practice on some other properties, theconductor does not get the same punch all
