Jean Astruc, French Professor of Medicine
Jean Astruc (1684-1766) was a professor of medicine at Montpellier and Paris, who wrote the first formal work on the subject of syphilis and venereal diseases and played a fundamental part in the origins of critical textual analysis of works of scripture, modern biblical criticism.
