Lake of Tovel. Ville d'Anaunia in Val di Non (Provincia di Trento),


Lago di Tovel is a lake in Trentino, Italy. At an elevation of 1178 m, its surface area is km2. The lake has been recognised as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention in Tovel is an alpine lake located in the Val di Tovel, in the territory of the municipality of Ville d'Anaunia in Val di Non (Province of Trento), at an altitude of 1177 m above sea level. and within the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park. The valley creeps from the town of Tuenno for 17 km between Monte Peller to the west and the Campa massif to the east, up to the imposing rocky cirque of the Brenta Dolomites which surrounds the upper valley, where the lake is located[1 ]. It has also been called bear lake because there are some brown bears in the valley, and red lake due to the reddening of its waters, which occurred until 1964 due to the action of an algae (Tovellia sanguinea).
