The Alimbekov family at home. Father Kanybek is a trained hydro-engineer and community leader and his wife, Cumagul is an elementary school principal. They are parents of six children, including Nurjamal, 16, left, and Kubatek, 14, at home in Lyaily, where water is gathered by hand from a nearby irrigation canal, called aryk, or directly from a river.
