Thousands of shoppers and foodies arrive at the LIC Flea & Food in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens in New York

Thousands of shoppers and foodies arrive at the LIC Flea & Food in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens in New York on opening day, Saturday, June 15, 2013. The newest addition to the city's burgeoning trendy flea markets, the 24,000 square foot outdoor weekend market strives to compete with its upscale competitors in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The new market is centered around the new developments along the East River in Western Queens and hopes to attract locals, who have long bemoaned the lack of amenities, and visitors from other boroughs.
