John Venn (1802-1890), evangelical Christian minister and Vicar of St. Peter's Church in Hereford, UK, was a compassionate and prolific social reformer. His grandfather was Henry Venn (1725-1797), a founder of the Clapham Sect, an influential evangelical group within the Church of England instrumental in the abolition of the slave trade. His father was John Venn (1759–1813), a founder of the Church Missionary Society (CMS). His nephew, John Venn (1834-1923), was the mathematician, logician and philosopher best known as the inventor of Venn diagram.
