The explorations and studies recorded in this paperon FHnt Ridge were undertaken for the purpose of se-curing for exhibition in the State Museum a completecollection of the various kinds of flint found at FlintRidge as Avell as the implements used in quarrying theflint from its natural bed. A preliminary examinationof Flint Ridge beginning at its western edge in HopewellTownship, Licking County, Ohio, extending eastwardand ending in western Muskingum County, a distance ofpractically eight miles, made it apparent that a moreextended and systematic study of the quarrying, manu-facture, and distribution of flint objects was necessaryto enable one to cope with the many complex problemsarising from a study of the art of shaping the rawmaterial into artificial forms to meet the varied needs ofa primitive people.
