Its fiftiethanniversary was celebrated in 1873 by a public banquet, at whichspeeches were delivered by many of its most eminent members,past and present, including the Marquis of Salisbury (Chancellorof the University), Lord Selborne, the late Archbp. Tait, CardinalManning, and several leading members of both parties in the Library, to the right of our engraving, was built in 1856 for aDebating-room, from designs by Messrs.
