Saint John the Baptist, depicted beneath a Gothic arch, in fresco by 1400s German artist, Albert of Konstanz. In the Church of the Blessed Virgin and Saint George the Younger at Plomin, Istria, Croatia. The artist, also known as Master Albert, included his own name, Alberto de Constancia, in the inscription beneath the saint’s feet.

Plomin, Istria, Croatia: The 15th century German artist, Albert of Konstanz, included his own name (Alberto de Constancia) in the Latin inscription beneath the feet of John the Baptist when he included this image of the saint, standing beneath a Gothic arch, in a larger fresco in the Church of the Blessed Virgin and Saint George the Younger, founded in 1474. The Byzantine-style artwork, centred on an image of the Virgin Mary suckling the Christ Child, was revealed on the east wall of the church when a Baroque altar was removed for restoration in 1994. The artist is also known as Master Albert or Albertus de Constancia.
