There is no evidence that they were ever transferredto the Vincennes, but the undated report in the case of Hays, on p. 441,shows that at some time Hays was temporarily removed from headquarters,probably in order to evade service of a writ of habeas, corpus. 2 The speeches made on this evening were reported in the papers, andinteresting extracts are reprinted in the Introduction. The front is made of blue satin,with gilt lettering and decorations, shaded with darker blue and red. The oak, fig andolive are emblematic of the strength of the Committee of Vigilance, of the homes whichit protected, and of the peace and safety which resulted from its suppression of crime.
