Cro-magnon fossil skull. Fossilised skull of a stone age (palaeolithic) Cro-magnon human showing evidence of a ceremonial burial. This skull was found in the Menton cave, Alpes-Maritimes, France, and is thought to be around 12,000 years-old. It is covered in red ochre. Cro-Magnons were an early European culture of modern humans (Homo sapiens sapiens).
