The present corporation was formed by the consolida-tion of the Nursery and Childs Hospital with the New York InfantAsylum, which had formerly consolidated with the old Marion StreetMaternity Hospital. Each of these institutions was a pioneer in its par-ticular line of endeavor. The old Marion Street Maternity Hospital was organized in 1823and incorporated in 1827 as The New York Female Asylum for Lying-inWomen and was so called for the next seventy years.
