Crinoid, a feather star, from the South China Sea, Coral Triangle, Brunei.


Crinoidea comes from Greek krinon, "a lily", and eidos, "form". They are a very ancient group of animals, starting to inhabite marine space over 200 Mill. years ago. Featherstars are filter feeder, transporting small particles with their long arms, zooplankton, into a mouth opening at their upper central part.
