It has been the tallest man-made structure in the world from September 2008, and topped out at a height of 828 metres in January 2009. The large building at lower centre is the Dubai Mall. Other hotel and office skyscrapers surround the adjacent lake and water park (left). Image data obtained on 9 February 2010. The US-operated GeoEye-1 satellite was launched in September 2008, and orbits at a height of 680 kilometres. It is the world's highest resolution commercial Earth-imaging satellite.
