This was esti-mated by appearance only, as it is practically impossible to deter-mine it by loss in weight on account of the adherence of theproducts of corrosion and the lack of a satisfactory reagent toremove the rust without affecting the metallic aluminmn. The alloys were cast 1/4 inch thick, about 1/8 inch was thenmilled from one surface so that one exposed surface was as cast,and the other was machined. The specimens were 2 incheswide and 4 inches long. The designation of the cast alloys, with their composition andtreatment, is given in the following table: Marked Treatment Composition A-30-A As cast Al+5 per cent Mg. A-30-A-A Annealed 500° C Do.
