Vintage photo circa 1912 of British suffragette leader and political activist Emmeline Pankhurst (1858 - 1928). Pankhurst, founder of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), was a controversial figure in the campaign to get women the right to vote because of the militant tactics she supported. Women in the UK finally won the right to vote on the same terms as men with the Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 1928. Photo by Bain News Service.
