A 1940's printed photograph of a ship leaving Trollhattan Lock in the Gota Canal ( Göta kanal) linking the Baltic with the Katteg. The Göta Canal is a part of a waterway 390 km (240 mi) long, linking a number of lakes and rivers providing a route from Gothenburg (Göteborg) on to Söderköping on the Baltic Sea via the Trollhätte kanal and Göta älv river and through the large lakes of Vänern and Vättern. It was constructed in the early 19th century as a commercial waterway but is now primarily used as a tourist and recreational attraction
