The Castle of Mey in Caithness Scotland

Editorial use only. The Castle of Mey is a 16th century tower house built by George Sinclair, 4th Earl of Caithness. It was previously known as Barrogill Castle. It overlooks the Pentland Firth and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) liked it so much that when it came on the market in 1952 she purchased it and had it restored for her own use. The castle is now owned by a charitable trust and is open to the public. The garden was of particular interest to the Queen Mother and flowers can still be seen in bloom in this autumn image.
