The choir is entirely surroundedby aisles and eastern chapels. Beneath the choir is a crypt, with vaultingspringing from two rows of low pillars ; at the eastern end of this under-croft is an altar, dedicated in honour of St. Peter, as being the foundationor rock of the church. The same staircases which lead up to the roodloft, at the entrance of the choir, are continued down to the crypt, whichis lighted by side openings in the walls of the choir, which being elevated
