At times it appears tobe structureless; at others finely granular or interspersed with smallglobules (Tomes). The matrix is laminated in structure, the incremental lines runningparallel to the long axis of the tooth ; but, although the cementum is thinat the cervix and thick at the apex, the number of lamellae is about thesame in all parts of the tissue. The lacunae in dried sections are irregular cavities with their long axiscorresponding to the long axis of the tooth. The processes are given offmost frequently at right angles to the direction of the lamellae, and mostabundantly upon that side towards the exterior surface of the root. Thesize and form of the lacunae in cementum are very variable, while the. Kerve Fig, 175.—Transverse section of human cuspid, at cervix, x 150.
