The fountain was the work of various artists, including its initial designer, Baccio Bandinelli, architect and sculptor Bartolomeo Ammannati and the Flemish sculptor known as Giambologna or Giovanni da Bologna. It took 13 years to construct, from 1563 to 1575, and is in the Mannerist or Late Renaissance style of art and architecture.
