The cost of construction and furniture amounted 76 FIFTY YEARS IN YORKVILLE to 20,600 dollars, no slight addition to the debt on thechurch. The congregation bore the burden school was ample for our needs for almost fortyyears. It is fitting to pay tribute to Father Loyzancefor his initiative. The inauguration of the School wasamong the last acts of his administration. When heleft St. Francis Xaviers, the Fathers here ceased tobe dependent on the larger and older CHAPTER VII. Expansion. Owing to the fact that the greater number of Jesuitsare engaged in the occupation of teaching, and that theScholastics so employed must return to the House ofStudies for their course of theology in preparation forthe priesthood, many changes are necessary every yearin the staff of the colleges. Some leave after fiveyears of teaching, others return on the completion oftheir course. Some retire for a year for what iscalled the Third Probation or third year of novitiate,and others who have completed that term resume col-lege activities. As these changes must be made toaccommodate the school year, there is much comingand going every summer, for the change of one singleman may entail in certain cases the shifting of two orthree others. Parish priests are occasionally affectedby these necessities in the corps of teachers, and they,too, have to be shifted at times. Somethi
