Whether Thomas Close was a friend of publicans does not appear on tlic record,but the company took care to ensure his sobriety by in-forming him that the first time he is seen intoxicated hewill be dismissed, and the sum due to him as wages shallbe forfeited. It was not until October 1825 that the company com-menced to run a coach of their own. The following is acopy of their programme and the conditions prescribed forpassengers :—.
