Here also are thetowers celebrated for their height, and the magnificent views to be obtainedfrom their summit. It is not a little singular that several of these towerslean much in the same way as the Tower of Pisa. The purpose for which. these towers were erected is not known, and is ditticult lo conceive. Theypass into the same category of riddles as the Round Towers of beyond these more material objects, Bologna has a reputation for bothmusic and art. In the season, an opera at Bologna is a musical same may be said all the year rounil with respect to the .Academy, forhere are the pictures from the men whose names are intimately associatedwith the Bolognese School. On the walls of the Academy are a largenumber of paintings by the Carracci, Guido, and others; and here also iscelebrated picture of St. Cecilia, by Raphael. The name of the painter isattached to each frame. There are eight rooms, and the Academy is opendaily from 9 to 3. Bologna is celebrated for its arcades, and the one whichleads to the Church of the Madonna de S. Luca is three miles long, andforms a pleasant covered way. The church itself is exceedingly beautiful,and the \-iew from the summit of the mount on which it stands is one
