Finally theday of action came. Lieutenant Abele did not falter nor fail; he ledhis men gallantly in the midst of the turmoil. This brave young officerfell while fighting nobly near the sacred Verdun. On October 27, lessthan a month before the armistice was signed, Lieutenant Abele diedas a result of his wounds.
