Cone bush (Leucadendron album) seed head. Leucadendron album is an erect, silvery, evergreen shrub endemic to South Africa, and found amongst fynbos vegetation. The seed head is a woody cone-like structure containing numerous seeds with silky-haired parachutes, enabling the seeds to be dispersed by wind. The cone is fire-proof and releases the seeds only after a fire has killed part or all of the plant. This cone has been scorched by wildfire and has opened to reveal the numerous feathery seeds.
